The fourth and fifth graders of room 202 took two buses down to Alemany Farm to check out the largest agricultural site in San Francisco. We went on a walking tour of the farm and got to taste many different plants along the way. Some favorites were Jerusalem sage and passion flowers, which both have a very sweet nectar. We tasted fresh chard and stopped to smell the fresh orange blossoms. We also helped weed the apple orchard and ate lunch in the shade.
On the way back to school, we stopped at St. Mary’s Playground for some free time. Thanks to all our wonderful chaperones, bus drivers, and the educators from the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Youth Stewardship Program for making it a great experience on a beautiful, sunny day!
